Currently.

Helen Mirren, why do you toy with my emotions?

A few reasons why I am mortified yet in thorough admiration with this shot: a) Mirren's a hot older woman and I want to look this amazing when I'm her age, b) She's a respectable and award-winning actress who can play almost any role and be absolutely phenomenal in it, thus the star for the Walk of Fame, and C) Why the hell is she sprawled on the ground like a 20-year-old sex pot? Yes, I understand it's to get close the star on the ground. Yes, I understand it's simply publicity and she's exemplifying her gratitude.

Overall, the combination of these thoughts make this photo ever-so wonderfully confusing and strange.

Anyway.

I want to thank Oleah for contacting me to ad swap. So glad she found her way here as I'm already in love with the dry voice and sheer whimsy of her blog, The Simple Things. Check it out!

Now let's get down to biz-nazz: In order to to play a quick catch-up, here's my Currently post for the month!

Watching not much, actually. In an effort to remain "digitally" healthy, I've been straying from television. However, if I see the words Duck Dynasty on the cable list then all sense of forced morality becomes lost as I fantasize having a beer with Si while he entertains me with his randomness. That show is beyond magnificent.

Adam and I always watch Top Chef, but it's on sooo late on Wednesdays that we end up turning into dirty, dirty thieves in order to satiate our faux foodie sixth sense. Totally dismayed about Kirsten's unfair vote this last episode! Padma was a diva about the situation and pushed the outing for a ratings boost. Ughanuff. Don't worry, I tweeted my anger to Padma.

Listening to a lot of random stuff on Spotify. When I'm writing/editing during the day with other folks working in the room, I'll play music the Switzerland of Music which mostly tends to be Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, and Tom Petty.

On my way to work, though, I'll listen to Minus the Bear since Absinthe, etc. is definitely one of my all-time favorite songs and it gets me pumped.

Planning a ridiculous amount of communications organization. Because I run the first edits of the website, Facebook, community newspaper, e-updates, and a few mailers, I need to create a deadline system for the events that take place throughout the year so I know what to write when. There are so many events. It's a beast that I plan to tackle to tomorrow. Step one of the system that will hopefully make my stressed brain much more functional.

Thinking about how I want to take a class in something. Graphic design/self-publishing/improv/printmaking... something active and creatively stimulating.

Looking forward to Monday. I'm going to sleep the hell in, hike all the way around Piestewa, get a mani/pedi with nail art, get my cute lavender and gray Nike running shoes at ze Rack, see Django, and veg like I have never vegged before. GLORY BE.

Reading "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell and it's ba-lowing my mind. It's basically an intellectual study of success, and how timing and connections shape a successful person rather than effort in order to be automatically successful. However, it's more of a historical thesis rather than an opinionated prose.

And as my guilty pleasure, I'm concurrently reading "I Shouldn't Be Telling You This: Success Secrets Every Gutsy Girl Should Know." It's composed by the editor-in-chief of Cosmo. Anyway, I'm looking at the back of the non-fiction book, and Kate White, the author, is clad in animal print and a cheesy blonde-cropped do. I'm thinking: Do I really want to be like her? I'll leave that unanswered with my myriad of conflicting emotions...

Making me happy is the fact that I am eating whatever the hell I want until Thursday. I begin this Biggest Loser Challenge with my co-workers. Here's the gist: Every person puts in $100 and whoever loses the most weight at the end of 10 weeks wins the pot. Right now $600 is on the line and it's complete motivation for me to get fit. Oi.

At any rate, you should probably do a Currently post yourself, and link in the comment section below.

I hope you're all doing well!

:]

  1. Outliers is a great book (but I'm pretty much a fan of anything Malcolm Gladwell writes). Enjoy the weekend and good luck with your biggest loser challenge!

  2. I love finding bloggers who also share a passion for music - just checked out Minus The Bear, gosh they play well. Love the intro and growing crescendo. Thanks for sharing it! x

    1. Minus the Bear is--hands down--one of my favorite bands. I love bands who can play instrumental extremely well, and they're one of them. Check out Foals, too.

  3. That is definitely a great motivator for losing weight! Right now my motivation is to keep my family healthy. My parents are diabetic and I want to help support them with their healthy choices. Reasonable eating and Zumba? Hell to the yes. My weekends are for me, though. I will gladly drink a margarita and have some french fries, guilt-free.

    Good luck!

    1. Haha--YES. Anytime I work out like two days in a row then I convince myself that I desert a semi-extravagant caloric treat. Weekends are glorious.
